Maxima had already wowed the throngs of well-wishers with two stunning outfits on the day she became Queen consort of the Netherlands. Her third ensemble was no different, drawing gasps from the crowd as she stepped out from her car for the Water Pageant in a beautiful burgundy and nude lace gown.
Flying the flag for Dutch fashion once again, she had called upon Holland-born Jan Taminiau, the designer who had custom-made her second dress of the day. Due to the backless and off-the-shoulder cut of the dress, Maxima had opted to carry a matching wine-coloured shawl to keep out the cold. Her adorable blonde daughters Amalia, Alexia and Ariane were still sporting their cobalt blue swing dresses, but had covered up with matching camel wraps. If the girls were tired from the hectic day of festivities, they didn't let it show as they waved to the crowds. The ladies were adorned with flower garlands and made their way to the Havenbeheer boat. As they took to the water, a boat powered by gold medallist rowers from the 1996 Olympics accompanied them along the way. The youngest of the new Dutch king and queen's daughter Ariane marvelled at an impressive performance by a gymnast on the riverbank. Along the way, there were various sporting demonstrations laid on for the royals including Olympic champion participants. The family looked on as Dutch rapper Ali B took to the stage, dedicating his performance to the King. He was followed by an orchestra that played Bolero by Maurice Ravel.
