"Since leaving university Eugenie has been committed to working in the arts world and has done some internships, but is now set to take on a permanent role at graduate level," a friend of the Duchess of York told the paper. "From October she is going to work and live in New York, before returning to London where the company is setting up a new office. "Eugenie's previous experience includes an internship at Christie's auction house, where Princess Margaret's son Viscount Linley is chairman. She has also worked at the Royal Collection in Buckingham Palace, where she won praise after joining fellow workers queuing in the canteen.

"She is determined to be a working woman with a full-time job," a friend said.

The move Stateside will mean that Eugenie has to leave behind her new boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, who works in the gastro-pub trade. However, the couple are reportedly planning to commute whenever possible to see each other.

Online auction house Paddle8 was co-founded by Alexander Gilkes and Aditya Julka, and has backers including Damien Hirst and Jay Jopling.

Alexander has strong links to the British royal family. When he tied the knot with Misha Nonoo in Venice in August 2012, guests included Eugenie and her older sister Beatrice, and James Middleton. Alexander's younger brother Charlie, who acted as best man, is an Etonian classmate of Prince William who once dated Pippa Middleton.
