Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has given a strong hint as to when the royal baby might arrive. "We are all just waiting by the telephone," she said on a visit to Cornwall on Monday. "We are hopeful that by the end of the week he or she will be here. "If Prince William and Kate Middleton's baby arrived this week, the little Prince or Princess might even share a birthday with Prince Charles' wife, who turns 66 on 17 July.

Camilla and Charles were visiting Little Harbour children's hospice in Porthpean near St Austell on Monday. She was speaking to a group of well-wishers who had gathered when she let slip that the baby's arrival was imminent. A Clarence House spokeswoman later confirmed the comment. The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly spent the weekend at her parents' home in Berkshire while William played at a charity polo match in Gloucestershire. His decision to compete in the Jerudong Trophy, at Cirencester Park Polo Club, sparked rumours that there might be a while to go before Kate's due date.

While an official date has never been revealed, Kate herself said that the little one was due in mid-July. Meanwhile, the press pack continues to camp outside the Lindo wing of St Mary's hospital in Paddington, London, where the 31-year-old is expected to deliver the little Prince or Princess via a natural birth.
