Proud grandmother Queen Sofia of Spain carries handbag featuring photos of her eight grandchildren

Queen Sofia of Spain showed she was every bit the doting grandmother as she carried a stylish handbag that featured photos of her eight grandchildren.

The Spanish royal strolled through the streets with the tote bag while on holiday with her family on the island of Majorca.

Her grandchildren, some of whom were with her, were no doubt delighted that their grandmother proudly sported the bag that featured their smiling faces.

Sofia's grandsons, Juan, Pablo and Miguel, the three sons of the Duke and Duchess of Palma, and the only son of Infanta Elena, Felipe, featured on one side of the bag.Completing the set on the other side of the stylish accessory were her and King Juan Carlos of Spain's granddaughters Infanta Leonor, Infanta Sofia, Victoria and Irene.Leonor and Sofia are the daughters of Felipe, Prince of Asturias and his wife Letizia, Princess of Asturias

The smiling brood were in the pretty port town of Palma de Mallorca, thought to be getting ready for one of their favourite family activities – sailing. The group of cousins were dressed for nautical fun in an array of stripy clothing.

. Their cousin Victoria is the daughter of Elena, Duchess of Lugo and Irene is the daughter of Infanta Cristina of Spain, Duchess of Palma de Mallorca.

Prince Felipe and his sister Infanta Cristina both followed in their parents' footsteps and competed 1992 Barcelona Olympics and 1988 Seoul Olympics respectively.

The King and Queen both competed in Olympic sailing and their love for the sport has filtered down through the generations. Sofia represented Greece in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. Her husband represented Spain in the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics.
