Prince Philip was all smiles as he arrived at Dersingham Bog, and took in the sunshine and beautiful green land. The Queen's husband was attending as the Patron of the Conservation Volunteers and happily chatted away to the organisers as they toured the area. The Duke of Edinburgh looked smart in a dark suit and maroon patterned tie, and according to officials, was only using a walking stick to help manoeuvre around the bog.

While the Queen is thought to be returning to London in the next few days, Prince Philip is expected to head back to the capital soon after. The royal is due to visit St Michael’s Care Complex, also in Norfolk, on 8 October before then.

Prince Philip is no doubt eager to get back into his old routine, and has reportedly told his advisers to fill up his diary with engagements. His first public appearance since his operation was in mid-August when he presented medals at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, of which he has been an honorary fellow since 1951.

"Prince Philip is continuing to make good progress and is in very good spirits," said a royal source. "He is doing this engagement because it is something he has been committed to for a very long time, as well as it being something he takes extremely seriously. "Britain's longest serving royal consort then returned to Balmoral where he met his third great-grandchild, Prince George, for the first time.
