Prince George 's godfather has resigned from the board of Prince Harry's charity.Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, who stepped up to be one of four godfathers to the future King at his christening last week, has stepped down from his post as a director of Sentebale, the organisation that Prince Harry set up with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help African orphans. The former SAS officer's exit comes simply because he has given up his part as private secretary to Harry and to the Prince's brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

"Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton's position as a trustee of Sentebale was ex-officio as private secretary to Prince Harry," a Kensington Palace spokesman tells Mandrake at The Daily Telegraph. "Ed Lane Fox is now Private Secretary and the position of trustee will be held open for him. "As one of Prince George's seven godparents, Jamie is sure to remain close to the royal family despite his resignation.

The 53-year-old was one of a chosen few of William and Kate’s close family and friends to be given the privileged role.

He joins Prince William's cousin Zara Phillips - the only member of their two families given the honour - and Julia Samuel, who was a close friend of William's mother Princess Diana.

The seven-strong list also includes William van Cutsem, the son of Prince Charles' late friend Hugh van Cutsem, and the couple's university friends Oliver Baker, Kate's childhood friend Emilia Jardine-Paterson, and Earl Grosvenor, the son of the Duke of Westminster.
