Prince William and Kate Middleton 'seeking' new nanny for overseas tour

January 12, 2014

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly looking for a new nanny to accompany them on their tour to Australia and New Zealand in April. The couple's current nanny Jessie Webb – who cared for Prince William as a child – is understood to have reached the end of her contract, but will most likely be making the trip overseas with "an assistant" if six-month-old Prince George joins his parents.Jessie, 71, came out of retirement to look after the royal tot, on the condition that she would only work for three months. The much-loved nanny, however, is reportedly still working and living at Kensington Palace.

"It took a lot of persuading to get Jessie to take the job in the first place, but she loves William and wanted to help out," a source told the Daily Mail .

"I can't imagine that she will want to be travelling around the world at her age. If she does, she will need an assistant. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a busy schedule planned, criss-crossing the two countries in a month, and will need "round-the-clock help for George if he joins," another source added. "Kate might also want to think about taking a dresser or a lady's maid," said the source. "It sounds grand, but it's actually very practical. The Queen wouldn't dream of travelling overseas without a lady-in-waiting. "Kate's personal hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker, who visits the palace often, is also expected to make the trip.

Prince George may join his parents abroad

Last December, Kensington Palace confirmed that William and Kate had been invited by the Australian and New Zealand governments to tour the countries. At the time, royal aides said that it was "anticipated" that Prince George would join.

If he does make the journey Down Under, little George will be nine-months-old and making his first official overseas tour. The trip would mirror his father's early life, as William was the same age when he joined his parents Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana on their official tour of Australia and New Zealand in the spring of 1983.
