Mother and son are believed to have joined Carole, Michael, Pippa and James Middleton at a £19,000-a-week villa that they have previously rented.

The private island, where the Queen's sister Princess Margaret once had a holiday home, has 74 luxury villas which are owned by stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Jeremy Clarkson.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been known to seek privacy during their getaways to the luxury holiday destination and sought some winter sunshine there in February 2013.In 2012, the couple joined forces with the Middletons to celebrate Carole's 57th birthday under the isle's blue, balmy skies.

Prince George's transatlantic flight will no doubt have helped to prepare him for the long journey he is expected to make in April when he joins his parents on their tour of Australia and New Zealand.
