Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill present baby Leonore on Sweden's National Day

June 6, 2014

Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill may be based in New York, but the couple delighted royal fans in Madeleine's home country when they presented their daughter Princess Leonore during Sweden's National Day celebrations in Stockholm. Madeleine and Chris looked thrilled as they stepped out in the courtyard of the royal palace to offer a glimpse of their four-month-old baby girl.Young Leonore herself slept soundly in her mother's arms throughout her first public outing, soothed by her father gently stroking her hand.

Both mother and daughter were dressed in Swedish folkdräkt, the traditional flower-embroidered pinafore worn over a white blouse, while financier Chris sported a smart navy suit. The family touched down at Stockholm's Arlanda airport on Tuesday, five days before Leonore's christening will take place and the couple will celebrate their first wedding anniversary.Princess Leonore, who is fifth-in-line to the throne and has the title Duchess of Gotland, will be baptised at Drottningholm Palace Church at 12.00 noon.

She will be christened in the same gown as King Carl XVI Gustaf, Princess Victoria and her two-year-old cousin Princess Estelle, whom she met for the first time when her parents Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited New York in mid-April. The baptismal water will be drawn from a source on the island of Öland and the ceremony will be conducted by the same Archbishop who baptised Princess Estelle, Anders Wejryd. Assisting will be chaplain to the king, Lars-Göran Lönnermark and pastor Michael Bjerkhagen. Princess Leonore will have six godparents although they have yet to be named. After the religious ceremony there will be a reception for 160 guests and then a private lunch hosted by Princess Leonore's grandparents King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia for 100 guests.
