Queen Máxima of the Netherlands wows at brother's wedding

June 8, 2014

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands showed off her style prowess as she attended her brother Juan Zorreguieta's wedding on Saturday 7 June. The elegant royal had travelled to the Vienna nuptials with her husband King Willem-Alexander and the couple's three beautiful daughters — Princess Catharina-Amalia, 10, Princess Alexia, eight, and seven-year-old Princess Ariane. Willem-Alexander's mother Princess Beatrix, who abdicated from the throne last year, was also present at the ceremony.

Máxima, 43, turned heads as she arrived in a lavender ball gown. The full-length dress featured a floral overlay and sweetheart neckline, which showed off her diamond necklace. The Dutch queen accessorised with a matching bag, thick cuff bracelet and dangly earrings, and covered up with a sweeping cape that shimmered as she walked into the Servite Church on her husband's arm. While Máxima was a guest of honour at the wedding of Juan to his Austrian fiancée Andrea Wolf, the royal's three children also had a special role.

Acting as bridesmaids, Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariane played the part to perfection at their uncle's ceremony. The trio looked adorable in matching white frocks and added a pop of colour to their outfits with bright pink sashes and matching ballet pumps. Wearing their blonde hair loose and adorned with floral crowns, the royal youngsters scattered petals on the ground as they walked ahead of the newlyweds. Blushing bride Andrea, who stunned in a mermaid-style, strapless gown, gave a large smile as she left the church with her husband. Much like her bridesmaids, Andrea completed her look with a dainty floral headpiece.

The wedding party moved on to the reception at the Liechtenstein Palace, one of the residences of the Prince of Liechtenstein Hans Adam II. The past week has been a busy one filled with celebrations and royal engagements for Willem-Alexander and Máxima. On Tuesday the reigning couple welcomed Prince Albert of Monaco to the Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands for a gala dinner. One of the topics of conversations at the meal may well have been Albert's role as a future father, as the Monegasque leader is reportedly expecting twins with his wife Princess Charlene.
