Prince Harry's second day in Brazil goes swimmingly

June 24, 2014

Prince Harry has kicked off his second day in Brazil by visiting the Team GB Rio 2016 Summer Olympics training camp and meeting young Brazilian athletes. The Prince spent the morning watching swimming hopeful's practice and at one point looked gleeful as he was given the opportunity to start a swimming race.

Obviously influenced by the 2014 World Cup match he attended the night before, Harry later participated in a football game with children, taking on the role of goalkeeper, as well as playing a game of basketball and meeting judo practitioners.

Greeted by young children waving British flags, the British royal was at the Minas Tenis Clube situated in Belo Horizonte, which supports the UK's GREAT Campaign and is also home to the Team GB Paralympics team. The venue is best-known for the professional teams it maintains, in a variety of Olympic sports, and children are also heavily involved with the venue's youth teams.

The venue is recognised as one of the most important centres of new sports talents in Brazil. During his trip to the venue Harry awarded several of the youngsters medals and met with Brazilian Olympic swimmer Cesar Cielo, who has won three Olympic medals and six World Championships.

Spending time in the country which is hosting the 2014 World Cup, Harry took the opportunity to catch a few games, and on Monday watched Brazil beat Cameroon 4 - 1.

Earlier in the day he met patients undergoing rehabilitation for neurological and orthopaedic problems, and while at the hospital had a day of sporting action as he watched a game of wheelchair basketball and tried his hand at canoeing.

The visit, which is designed to enhance the partnership between the UK and the two countries, will see Harry tour hospitals, charities and environmental projects as well as watching England play in their final game of the championship on Tuesday.
