Queen Rania of Jordan supported by teenage daughter Princess Iman in holding feast for orphans

July 9, 2014

Queen Rania of Jordan was given a helping hand by her eldest daughter Princess Iman to host a feast for orphans at the royal palace. The 43-year-old queen opened the doors to her home and welcomed dozens of children and youngsters to enjoy iftar – the evening meal during Ramadan during which Muslims break their fast at sunset. Sharing a photo of herself and her second child, Rania captioned the Instagram snap with a heart-warming message.

"With Iman, at Iftar today with children and youth who have been deprived of the love of mothers and fathers," wrote Rania. "Their determination to continue their education after leaving the orphanage and to build a hopeful future for themselves is so inspiring, and they deserve our support #Ramadan #Jordan #LoveJO." The doting royal and mother to Crown Prince Hussein, Prince Hashem and Princess Salma gave in to her maternal instincts and helped a young girl seated next to her cut up her food, as her guest eagerly munched away. During the visit, Rania talked with the children who had come from several orphanages affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development, and checked on their needs and conditions.

High-profile guests who attended the banquet included the Royal Court chief and secretary-general, as well as the minister for social development.

Princess Iman joined her mother Queen Rania of Jordan on another engagement last week

Princess Iman, 17, has previously joined her mother on royal outings and learnt about Rania's philanthropic ventures. Just last week the mother-daughter duo visited Darat Samir Shamma – a home for the elderly in the capital of Amman. The queen consort was there to check on the facility as well as meet young volunteers who were taking part in the Jordan River Foundation's Volunteer Summer Programme and to learn about their volunteering experience. Rania and Iman started the visit by inspecting a number of apartments and checking that everything was in order, followed by meeting and talking to the elderly residents. The royals were shown around different groups of volunteers and residents who were baking, planting flowers, playing table tennis, making Ramadan decorations and engaging in other activities.
