Prince William and Kate thank the public for 'warm and generous good wishes to George'

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton have thanked well-wishers around the world for the generosity shown towards their little Prince over the last year. "We would like to take this opportunity on George's first birthday to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them, both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family," the royal couple said in a message accompanying their third official family portraits released to mark Prince George's July 22 first birthday.

The couple unveiled a picture of the adorable tot, dressed in a navy blue T-shirt and light blue dungarees by French children's clothing Petit Bateau, walking at the weekend. The image was a delight to royal fans after George's parents had already shared that the little one was on his feet.Last week Prince William revealed that George was "charging around and opening doors" in the Cambridges' apartment in Kensington Palace.

Press Association photographer John Stillwell, who was in charge of capturing the royals through the lens for the special snaps, said the little Prince was "quick on his feet", "lively" and "determined". William and Kate, 32, are understood to be throwing a private party with family and close friends at their Kensington Palace home to mark the special occasion.
