King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain have arrived on the island of Majorca for their first summer holiday as the country's reigning monarchs. The royal couple, who ascended the throne in June, brought along their two beautiful daughters – Leonor, Princess of Asturias and younger sister Princess Sofía – for the family trip. The royals headed straight to the Marivent Palace where they usually stay and undertook their first engagement – an official photocall in the lavish grounds.

Despite the formality of the occasion, Felipe, Letizia and their children looked happy and relaxed as they opened the palace doors to waiting photographers. Stylish Letizia, 41, channelled casual chic in a plain white T-shirt and loose fitting, patterned trousers while her mini-me daughters wore matching dresses in baby pink and turquoise blue. Felipe couldn't have looked prouder as he huddled his three girls close to him and smiled down affectionately at his brood.

The summer holiday will have come as a great welcome to the Spanish royals, as the past months have seen Felipe and Letizia travel around Europe in their first official overseas tour as king and queen. Felipe had just come from Belgium where he attended a service to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One, while Letizia flew with her daughters from Madrid to their holiday destination on Monday. Before he can completely unwind and relax though, the Spanish king is scheduled to meet prime minister Mariano Rajoy. The pair will attend a reception with over 200 guests where Felipe will be presented as the official reigning monarch to the Balearic Isle.

Just like summers past, the family-of-four will spend their trip taking in the local sights and surroundings. Felipe, Letizia, eight-year-old Leonor and seven-year-old Sofía have previously been snapped in the green settings of La Granja – a huge 17th century mansion situated in Esporles, the heart of Majorca – and island's port, where Felipe annually takes part in the Copa del Rey yachting competition.
