King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended their first official reception in the lovely island of Majorca as Spain's new king and queen on Thursday evening. The royal couple, who ascended the throne in June, were welcomed at the Almudaina Palace in the island's capital, Palma, by more than 200 authorities of the Balearic islands. They were joined by Felipe's mother, Queen Sofia, for the evening.
Ever the picture of elegance, Queen Letizia, 41, channelled holiday chic in a stylish one-shoulder white crepe dress which she teamed with a pair of drop earrings and strappy gold sandals. Her handsome husband wore a blue suit and added a touch of colour with a bright purple tie. Felipe's mother, the former Queen Sofia, was effortlessly glamorous for the occasion in a floral outfit and wedges.
The official dinner comes as Felipe and Letizia commence their first summer holiday as the country's new reigning monarchs. The royal couple arrived in Majorca earlier this week, along with their two beautiful daughters, eight-year-old Leonor, Princess of Asturias and seven-year-old sister Princess Sofía. Upon arrival, the family-of-four headed straight to their usual Majorca abode, Marivent Palace. There, they undertook their first engagement – an official photocall in the lavish grounds.
Despite the formality of the occasion, Felipe, Letizia and their children looked happy and relaxed as they opened the palace doors to waiting photographers. Letizia opted for a plain white T-shirt and loose fitting, patterned trousers for the snaps, while her mini-me daughters wore matching dresses in baby pink and turquoise blue.
Felipe couldn't have looked prouder as he huddled his three girls close to him and smiled down affectionately at his brood. The summer holiday will have come as a great welcome to the Spanish royals, as the past months have seen Felipe and Letizia travel around Europe in their first official overseas tour as king and queen.
