Prince Harry: I'm starting to 'feel old' ahead of 30th

September 10, 2014

Prince Harry has said he is "starting to feel" old ahead of his landmark 30th birthday on Monday, but said he sees himself as "always young at heart".

Harry spoke about his upcoming birthday as he attended a 'curtain raiser' event for the Invictus Games, which will officially begin on Wednesday evening.

Handing out medals after a driving challenge in Warwickshire, the prince revealed he would probably celebrate his big day by getting involved in the Invictus Games in some way. According to the BBC, he then likened the feeling of anticipating his 30th to seeing a 30mph road sign as you enter a village.

"I'm slowly starting to feel old… I am actually quite old," Harry said. "I think I'm always young at heart. Surrounding myself with these guys and girls does keep me young. They're sharp-witted and their sense of humour is on it."

Action man Harry got behind the wheel of a 4x4 and tackled a difficult assault course during his visit. He then watched the teams take part in the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge – and was all smiles as Australia took home the gold. Harry has admitted he's had some "sleepless nights in the run-up to the games, which are his brainchild and based on a similar event, The Warrior Games, in America. "

"The Americans made it, I stole it, and we made it bigger," he previously said.

The prince has also spoken about using his position to make the inaugural event a popular one.

"I'm at the stage of my life now where over the last couple of years I have realised what a difference it can make, " he said. "Using the position to do good is something I have tried to do for many years of my life, but this is a classic example."

An opening ceremony for the Invictus Games will take place at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Wednesday evening.

Over 400 competitors from 13 nations will take part in the games, a sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, which will run until Sunday.
