Sophie Wessex entertains babies and children in musical sing-a-long

October 1, 2014

The Countess of Wessex's standing as a mum-of-two put her in good stead for a fun engagement this week – meeting youngsters and babies at a primary school in Wittering, Cambridgeshire. Sophie, who is proud mum to Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, looked perfectly at ease as she held one three-month-old in her arms and took part in a musical "minis" class with the toddlers. Singing along to nursery rhymes including Humpty Dumpty and Incy Wincy Spider, Sophie, 49, showed off her maternal side and looked right at home with the fellow parents around her.

The Countess spent a large part of the session cuddling and entertaining the tots and beaming down at baby Rowan Wilson-Jones. Sophie was visiting Wittering Primary School on Tuesday to rename the children's facility the Wittering Families' Centre. During the visit she also met throngs of junior school pupils in the playground, who gave her a warm welcome by waving flags and cheering as she arrived. Sophie, looking as elegant as ever in a navy jacket and skirt ensemble, bent down to chat to the children who crowded around their royal guest of honour.

Earlier that day Sophie had touched down by helicopter at the RAF Wittering base. She was making one of her regular visits in her role as Honorary Air Commodore and was treated to a flying display, by which she looked visibly touched.
