Prince William is said to have asked one of the nation's most senior midwives if she would like to help him and his pregnant wife the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton. According to several reports, the Duke made the offer to Professor Lesley Page when he presented her with a CBE at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. "Well I'm a midwife so he talked about Catherine's pregnancy," Lesley told journalists at the Thursday event.

"We talked about me being a midwife for well over 30 years and what's changed," she added. "And what I'm doing now because I'm president of the Royal College of Midwives, so I'm very busy in that role and I still do hands-on practice. I almost said to him the second is much easier but I don't think I quite got that out."

The newly decorated recipient also spoke of her pride in her profession and how the "charming" Prince had said "he was well looked after by midwives".

His wife Kate, 32, is thought to be about ten weeks pregnant with the couple's second child and is currently suffering from severe morning sickness – much like she did when she was expecting Prince George. As the Duchess has had to scale back on her official engagements and has not been seen at a public event since August, William has carried out royal duties in her place including a solo two-day tour to Malta.
