The Queen and Duchess Kate send sweet letters to English schoolchildren

October 14, 2014

Three youngsters from England have revealed they were thrilled to receive letters from the British royal family after sending postcards from their holiday.

Maia Reid, aged eight, and her twin brothers, Alex and Finlay, six, wrote to the Queen and her youngest great-grandson Prince George while on holiday with their parents in Italy.

Alex and Finlay both received a reply from Prince George's parents, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, but Maia revealed that she had to wait for her reply.

"When I was at home Alex got a letter first and then Finlay got one. I was waiting for my letter and I thought it wouldn’t come," Maia told local Portsmouth newspaper, The News.

"And then one day I came home from school and there was a letter so I opened it and it was from the Queen. I was very happy because I waited for ages for it to come.

"I feel very special."

Alex and Finlay's letter, which also included a souvenir photograph of the young royal with his parents, read: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked me to thank you for the lovely postcard you recently sent in which you wrote so enthusiastically about your holiday to Italy.

"I can say on their behalf that they were delighted to hear from you. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were touched that you should take the trouble to write as you did.

"It really was most thoughtful of you and their Royal Highnesses have asked me to send their warmest thanks and best wishes."

Maia's letter, which was written by one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting, read: "The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your postcard.

"Her Majesty was pleased to learn that you had a wonderful time on your holiday in Italy. The Queen much appreciated your kind thought in writing as you did, and I am to thank you once again."
