Prince Charles to hold his first ever Google+ Hangout

November 11, 2014

Prince Charles will mark his royal first by taking part in a Google+ Hangout later this month. The future King will make his debut on Thursday 20 November, following in the footsteps of his sons Princes William and Harry who participated in a similar venture last year. As the leader of a social action campaign in the UK – Step Up To Serve – Charles will chat to teenagers and young people around the country about the value of social responsibility and giving back to the community.

Prince Charles' Google+ Hangout will take place in November

The project, aimed at people aged between ten and 20, hopes to inspire young members of the public to give time to help others. This may be in the form of working with groups like the Scouts or Guides, to embracing the National Citizen Service. With Charles, 65, at the forefront, the campaign is being supported by Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband. The Prince's hangout will last for half an hour and be hosted by BBC presenter Alex Jones. It will also be streamed live on the British monarchy's YouTube channel.

Princes William and Harry took part in a Google Hangout last year

Last year, William and Harry took part in their first webchat together in July 2013. The brothers took part in a Google Hangout at Buckingham Palace as they launched the Queen's Young Leaders Programme – an initiative to encourage young leaders across the Commonwealth to never "give up". In the live question and answer session, William, 32, and Harry, 30, encouraged young adults to believe in themselves. "You've got a lot more to say then you think," William told those who had tuned in. "There are plenty of people out there who have an open mind and will listen and care. They will listen to you and they want to help, and those are the kind of guys and girls you need to target – so always believe in yourselves, don't give up."
