Prince Frederik's life to become new royal biopic

November 13, 2014

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark is set to become the latest royal whose life will be the focus of a new cinematic release. Danish actor and director Christian Tafdrup has revealed that he is casting for a new biopic called Frederik's Young Years which will chronicle part of the prince's life. The movie's plot will reportedly begin in 1990 and cover the following 12 years, finishing two years before he married Crown Princess Mary.

According to reports, the film will feature Frederik's relationships with former Danish MP Malou Aamund and model Katja Storkholm, the latter of whom Christian is said to have interviewed for the movie, as well as showing his first meeting with his future wife at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

"It's a fictional film about the royal family built on facts inspired by the international wave of biopics about living people." Christian told Danish film magazine Ekko. "It can be a dangerous area, but that is also part of the motivation."

"Royals are good characters in films," he added. "They have a god-like status and at the same time they must face the same challenges as everyone else."

The Danish Film Institute has contributed €27,000 towards the project, which will begin filming next year.

While recent royal biopic Grace of Monaco was heavily criticised by the Monegasque royal family, Christian claims his film is not designed to offend the Danish royals.

"I accept that the royal family may not be happy at the prospect of my film," he told New Idea magazine. "But it is not my intention to upset them."
