Confirmed: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit New York City

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to visit New York City in December, for their first official engagement in the Big Apple. The royal couple will take part in events which are close to their hearts, including tackling the illegal wildlife trade and meeting organisations which work with disadvantaged young people.William and Kate will stay in the city for two days, and will arrive on Sunday 7 December where they will attend a private engagement. On Monday 8 December, William will travel to the nation's capital, Washington D.C. for the day.

In D.C. the Prince will attend an anti-corruption conference to discuss a zero tolerance approach to the transportation across borders of illegal wildlife parts, while Kate will remain in New York City to visit a local child development centre, as well as attend a lunch which will celebrate the achievements of the successful British community in the state of New York.DUKE AND DUCHESS OUTSHINE HOLLYWOOD STARS AT GLITTERING BAFTA GALAOn Monday evening the pair will watch an NBA basketball game, where there's a good chance the couple, who are expecting their second child in April, will be caught on the kiss-cam.

The two had previously spoken of their fears of being caught on a kiss-cam at the 2012 London Olympics, with William telling the BBC afterwards: "I was absolutely dreading they were going to come and show myself and my wife. That would have been very embarrassing."Kiss-cams are TV cameras which pick out fans at big sporting events and urge them to kiss, and they have become increasingly popular in America.Their appearance at the game will further strengthen the on-going collaboration between the Royal Foundation, United for Wildlife and the NBA.

Before flying home to their one-year-old son, Prince George, the two will visit organisations which focus on programmes which promote positive youth development and social learning. The trip is a symbol of the strong relationship between the USA and the UK, and the pair will also visit technological and creative industries, where this partnership is particularly felt.
