Prince Harry giggles his way through mock swordfight on second day in Oman

November 19, 2014

Prince Harry took part in a mock swordfight on Tuesday as he was challenged to a duel by an elderly traditional Omani dancer during his second day in Oman. The Prince, who as a captain in the Blues and Royals is used to carrying a ceremonial sword, gladly accepted the challenge, and proceeded to giggle his way through the pretend fight.

Harry is visiting the Arab country for three days before heading to Abu Dhabi for a charity polo match, and was presented with the sword and a shield by the dancers of the Nizwa folklore band.

The 30-year-old Prince also attempted to learn a traditional sword wobble as part of a folk dance, taught to him by Mohammed Moussa, the leader of the band.Attempting to make the blade shimmer in one of the trademark moves of the Razha sword dance, Harry told reporters: "This is mad!" Earlier in the day, after being greeted by local schoolchildren, it became clear that Harry's status as one of Britain's most eligible bachelors was not common knowledge in the Gulf country, with a young girl gifting the Prince with a bouquet of flowers - and a second bouquet ready to be presented to a Princess.

One of the teachers Jalila Al-Sabahi explained: "There were two bouquets, one for him and one for his wife, only he has no wife so we just gave him one. "The children thought the princess was coming too." Harry has made the three-day trip after a personal invitation from the nation's ruler Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said – who had extended the invite to the Prince and his brother the Duke of Cambridge. While Prince William had prior commitments, Harry was eager to make the trip, intended to strengthen ties between the two royal families and their countries. Unfortunately Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said was taken ill and is in Germany receiving medical treatment.
