Charlotte Casiraghi has every reason to be full of cheer this December. The Monegasque royal is not only preparing for Christmas, but also for her son Raphaël's first birthday on 17 December.

Equestrian star Charlotte, who participated in Gucci Paris Masters on Thursday, is no doubt planning the perfect first birthday party for her only child in the run-up to Christmas.

Little Raphaël, whose father is Charlotte's comedian partner Gad Elmaleh, was just eight days old on 25 December last year and Charlotte is most likely looking forward to a somewhat less stressful day now her son is not a newborn. The festive season is not only special for 28-year-old Charlotte. Her brother Andrea Casiraghi and his wife Tatiana Santo Domingo are excited parents-to-be.

The couple, who have a one-year-old son called Sacha, are expecting their second child in 2015.

Princess Charlene and her husband Prince Albert, Charlotte and Andrea's uncle, are also eagerly awaiting the birth of their twins.

Albert and Charlene will be first-time parents when their twins arrive any day now.

"As it is a twin pregnancy the birth will surely take place a dozen days early," Albert told local paper Monaco Matin in a rare interview, adding that he doesn't know the gender of the babies as he asked his pregnant wife to keep it a secret. "The princess probably knows but she is playing the game," said Albert. "She is keeping the secret as I asked her to. You know, one doesn't often have the opportunity to have such pleasant surprises in life. That is why I prefer not to know the babies' gender before the birth."
