Princess Athena of Denmark turns three: New photos released of the young royal

Princess Athena of Denmark is celebrating her third birthday on Saturday 24 January. In honour of the little girl's special day the Danish royal household has released three charming new photos of her playing with an electric race car track.The images show Athena, who is the youngest member of the Danish royal family, sporting a cute grey dress over a white long-sleeved top, burgundy tights and matching leather shoes.

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie's daughter can be seen moving a car around the track in one photo, before breaking into laughter in another candid picture.The Danish royals have previously released playful shots of Athena on her birthday. When she turned one in 2013 her proud parents shared a set of touching images showing the happy toddler with her mother Marie.

Princess Athena was born in 2012 at Copenhagen University Hospital.Four months later, on 20 May, she was christened Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie at the Møgeltønder Church – the same church where Joachim and Marie married in 2008.Athena has a five-year-old brother, Prince Henrik, two half-brothers Prince Nikoli, 15, and Prince Felix, 12, and is cousin to Princess Mary and Prince Frederik's four children.
