Prince Harry jokes about Prince George taking part in this year's London marathon

February 2, 2015

Prince George is, at one-and-a-half, already running around at full speed, and Prince Harry joked about his nephew going even further and running the marathon, when he met runners who are set to compete in the London Marathon later this year. The proud royal uncle met Jane Fishwick, who is among those set to run for charity on 26 April, in the England dressing room. Later, the 59-year-old relayed her conversation with the prince: "I suggested he might like to run one and he said there's a little bit of a problem there because he and William and Kate would all come under fire to do it if one of them does it.

"So then I suggested maybe they might like to train George up in good time and maybe they might like to hand the mantle on and he said he thought that might be a good idea. "He said they could push him round."

Jane is running in the marathon to raise money for Rugby Union's Injured Players Foundation which helped her family after her son Jack, 27, who was paralysed from the waist down in a devastating accident playing rugby for Wimbledon. She got to speak to Harry on what was his first engagement of the year, when he watched around 60 runners train for the marathon out of the 150 who are running for his, Kate and William's charities - five each from around 30 charities.

Brightening up a dreary Sunday morning with his charm and wit, Harry – who is patron of the annual sporting event – was spotted arriving at Twickenham to watch a training session. The Prince was making the visit to meet people who are not only taking part in the gruelling 26-mile race in April, but who are running specifically for a number of the charities he supports. As Harry met staff and runners at the start of the engagement, he thanked the participants for supporting organisations that hold a special place in his heart.
