Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall have fun at London engagements

February 5, 2015

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall showed off their creative skills at the launch of London Craft Week on Thursday. The royal couple met with craftsmen and their apprentices at The Art Workers' Guild in Bloomsbury, and put their own art skills to the test as they tried various crafts.

Prince Charles got into the spirit of the occasion and donned a pair of safety goggles to try engraving with the help of an expert. The 66-year-old joked that he couldn't see anything while his wife Camilla giggled behind him.

The Prince later tried his hand at tailoring, and the Duchess of Cornwall also had a go at gold embossing.

Charles is a keen supporter of the preservation of crafts and traditional skills, and runs several programmes through the Prince's Foundation for Building Community, which he is president of.

Following their visit, Charles and Camilla attended separate engagements in the capital.

Prince Charles visited the St Bride Foundation, where he met with staff to find out more about the print charity's work. The Prince toured the library and community facilities before meeting with a young apprentice to discuss how to keep the traditional printing methods and skills flourishing.

Before he departed Prince Charles also used a traditional printing press to create a commemorative print.

Meanwhile Camilla paid a visit to St Bride's Church. The Duchess, who is Patron of Guild of St Bride, toured the building's Crypt Museum and attended a reception with the church's supporters.

The St Bride Foundation was established in 1891 as a recreational centre for the print and publishing industry on Fleet Street.

This is the couple's second outing in a week. Charles and Camilla hosted a gala dinner for the British Asian Trust on Tuesday night, where they were joined by stars including Holly Candy, Louis Walsh and Goodness Gracious Me comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar.
