Duchess of Cornwall and her children bring laughter to Cheltenham Races

March 11, 2015

The Duchess of Cornwall was joined by her two children at Cheltenham Races on Wednesday, and the three couldn't keep the laughter off their faces as they enjoyed the Spring sunshine. Wrapped up warm in winter coats, Camilla, her son Tom Parker-Bowles, and her daughter Laura Lopes watched the race from the royal box and cheered on the horses and their riders.

The three are avid racing fans

Joining the threesome were Tom's wife Sara Parker-Bowles and Laura's husband, Harry Lopes.

Before the race began, top food critic Tom was seen sampling stout from a nearby stall selling local foods, but once the competition began, he rejoined his family, where they were all pictured beaming with glee.

Clutching her binoculars, Camilla, who wore a Roy Allen Scottish tweed suit with a hat by milliner Lock, watched with anticipation for the winners, as she later awarded the Queen Mother Champion Chase trophy to jockey Sam Twiston-Davies.

Camilla later bumped into famed author Jilly Cooper - the British writer once admitted that her lead male character in the best-selling Riders novel was based loosely on Camilla ex-husband Andrew Parker-Bowles.

The Duchess isn't the first British royal to enjoy the fun of this year's Cheltenham Races. Zara Tindall brought a touch of royal style to the festival as she attended the first day of the horse-racing event, and the 33-year-old didn't let royal watchers down on Wednesday either, when she attended for a second day.

A keen race-goer - winning a silver medal for equestrian in the London 2012 Olympic Games - Zara looked stylish in a houndstooth coat accessorised with a Rosie Olivia hat.

Similar to Tuesday, Zara left her 14-month-old baby daughter Mia at home, to enjoy a day out in her element, cheering on the jockeys competing at Prestbury Park alongside her fellow racing enthusiast friends.

Zara is expected to attend all four days of this year's Cheltenham Festival – a highlight in the National Hunt racing calendar that sees hundreds of thousands of visitors in attendance.
