Prince Charles praises Camilla for her 'charm and charisma' ahead of 10-year anniversary

Prince Charles has praised his wife the Duchess of Cornwall for her "charm and charisma" ahead of their tenth wedding anniversary next month. The Prince of Wales opened up in a rare moment of public affection when speaking in an interview with CNN's Max Foster.Charles was asked: "People cannot believe it's been ten years. And in that time the Duchess of Cornwall has defined her own public role as well, hasn't she? Has that been a challenge?"

The Prince, who was interviewed at Birkhall, his home next to the Queen's Balmoral estate, replied: "You can imagine it is a real, real challenge. But she's, I think, been brilliant in the way she's tackled these things. "The future King, who has rarely spoken publicly in detail about his relationship with Camilla – who has become one of the monarchy's best assets – was also asked about her "powerful" charm and humour. "It's a side that doesn't always come across on television, but it's, it's pretty powerful in real life, isn't it?" his interviewer said.

The couple met aged 23 at a polo match in 1970, but their romance cooled when Charles was called away on naval duties overseas. He didn't ask his girlfriend to wait for him, and she went on to marry – and have two children with – long-standing admirer Andrew Parker Bowles.They gradually rekindled their relationship, however, after both their marriages had come to an end.CNN Spotlight: Charles and Camilla will be broadcast on Friday at 7.30pm on CNN International.
