Muhammad Ali calls Prince Charles and Camilla 'the greatest' in personal letter

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall's four day visit to the USA came to an end on Friday, but not before boxing legend Muhammad Ali could wish the royal couple well. In a letter penned to the Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla that was read out to them during their visit to the Kentucky Centre for African American Heritage, the sportsman told the couple that he and his wife think they are "the greatest".Muhammad, who is battling Parkinson's, wrote to Britain's future monarch to thank him for the work he does and tell him that he hoped he enjoyed his time in the Kentucky city where the 73-year-old grew up.

"We are honoured that you have come to explore, share and learn about new sustainable initiatives that are so close to your hearts," read the letter. "Louisville prides itself on being a compassionate city and we are confident that you will leave feeling a sense of our southern hospitality, caring for the environment, and yes – our love of college basketball. "As you travel back to your homeland, we hope you know how much this city respects and admires the many contributions you have made in the world. We think you are the greatest."

Prince Charles and Camilla arrived in Louisville on Friday

Clarence House shared a photo of the note on Instagram with the caption: "A letter from boxing legend Muhammad Ali was read out to Their Royal Highnesses by the Mayor of Louisville during a visit to the Kentucky Centre for African American Heritage. "He ends by telling The Prince and The Duchess "we think you are the greatest" #RoyalVisitUSA."

Charles and Camilla enjoyed a whirlwind trip to the US. The couple arrived in Washington D.C. on Tuesday and toured two of the most popular tourist attractions in city: the Lincoln Memorial and the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial the following day.Prince Charles and his wife headed south west to Kentucky on Friday where they undertook engagements including a visit to Neighborhood House, a community outreach centre, and the Cathedral of the Assumption.
