Queen Rania of Jordan hosts luncheon for elderly mums on Mother's Day

March 23, 2015

As a mother to four children herself, Queen Rania of Jordan knows a thing or two about the value of her parental role, and the importance of honouring fellow mums in her country.

The royal celebrated Mother's Day, which falls in Jordan on Saturday 21 March, with a special luncheon for elderly mums in the city of Amman.

During Rania's past visits to a number of nursing homes in the capital, many of the women had expressed their desire to enjoy a date out of the centres.

Rania eagerly fulfilled their wishes and ahead of Saturday's national event, the queen treated a group of lucky women to a lunch. Each guest was picked up in a private car and taken to the lavish meal, where Rania, 44, waited to meet them.

The queen, who looked as beautiful as ever in a monochrome dress and jacket, kissed and embraced each of her visitors, before they sat down at a table laid out with traditional delights.

In photos and a video released by the royal palace, Rania's usual grace easily shines through. King Abdullah II's wife was seen chatting to the fellow mums in depth, and made sure that her elderly guests felt completely at ease and relaxed.

Rania herself paid tribute to her own mum Ilham Yassin, by posting a sweet photo on Mother's Day of the pair. The beautiful royal fittingly captioned the Instagram snap with a heart-warming phrase.

"A mother can take the place of anyone, but no one can take her place. Happy Mother's Day mama. #Mothersday #Love," she wrote.

Their eldest child Crown Prince Hussein, who is Jordan's heir apparent, has already stepped in for his father and acted as regent on various occasions.
