After a week-long celebration for Queen Margrethe's 75th birthday party, the Danish royal's big day finally arrived on Thursday, and the whole family was on hand to help celebrate. Joining Margrethe on the balcony of Copenhagen's Town Hall were her sons and daughters-in-law, who waved to the adoring crowds who gathered outside the Town Hall.

As always though, it was Margrethe's grandchildren who stole the show, with little Prince Vincent attempting to clamber up the railings - and being held back by his protective older sister Princess Isabella.

The night before, the Danish royals had enjoyed a big birthday celebration which was attended by European royals from across the continent, and several joined 75-year-old Margrethe at the Town Hall on Wednesday.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden stood alongside Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, while Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway also waved to the crowds.

With Victoria and Mette-Marit both wearing crisp white suits, Queen Margrethe's daughters-in-law Princess Mary and Princess Marie wore more subdued stylish suits, with Marie in a forest green ensemble and Mary opting for a navy blue, but it was Margrethe who stood out from the crowd, in a peppermint green suit with a wrap top.

It's been a joyous week for the royals, and Thursday closes off a week of celebrations for the Queen's landmark birthday, which began last Wednesday when Margrethe arrived with Prince Consort Henrik at the town hall following a parade through the streets of Aarhus.

The Queen fought off the chill to greet the 5000 locals who turned out to watch the parade, including schoolchildren, who were given the day off.
