Prince Harry is 'very happy' being single – and laughs off Bridget Jones comparison

May 17, 2015

Prince Harry may be one of the most eligible bachelors in the world but female fans will be disappointed to hear that the 30-year-old is not looking for a girlfriend. Harry, whose last serious relationship ended a year ago with Cressida Bonas, gave a candid interview in which he opened up about his current status.

The Queen's grandson insisted that he was "very happy" being single – and laughed off a comparison to Bridget Jones, when it was suggested by a reporter.

"Bridget Jones? Where's that come from?" said Harry, speaking to The Sunday Mirror. "Because I write my own diary or because I don't have a girlfriend?"

Prince Harry said he isn't looking for a girlfriend: 'It's good, it's cool'

"Bridget Jones? That's sad," he added. "No, for me, it's good. I'm very happy not having a girlfriend. It's not a case of anything. I'm not, sort of, looking. It's cool."

Harry and his ex-girlfriend Cressida – who is the granddaughter of Edward Curzon, 6th Earl Howe – were together for two years but called time on their romance in April 2014.

Prior to this Harry dated lawyer Chelsy Davy on and off for seven years, but the couple parted ways in 2011.

The Prince also said that he couldn't wait to meet his little niece Princess Charlotte, who was born on the morning of 2 May. Harry was in Australia on secondment with the army and unable to welcome the new royal baby in London with thrilled parents Prince William and Kate, and the rest of the family.

The sporty royal is expected to be back in the UK on Sunday before heading to Africa for the summer, so he will have plenty of time to bond with the adorable tot before then.

Prince Charles' youngest son also had some tips for baby Charlotte and her older brother, 21-month-old Prince George, on growing up in the spotlight.

"As an uncle, you know, I would say enjoy the role, because at first it's just pressure, pressure, pressure," said Harry, who is fifth-in-line to the throne.

"Just enjoy it and make the most of it. You're having an effect on so many people. If you smile, they're smiling – and what's the point of doing such a unique job without enjoying it?"
