Prince Harry shines at polo match after meeting baby niece Princess Charlotte

May 26, 2015

Shortly after meeting his baby niece Princess Charlotte for the first time, Prince Harry took to the polo field to play in a charity match. The royal – who has just completed an army secondment in Australia and a tour of New Zealand – was back in the motherland to carry out his duties.

As patron of children's charity WellChild, Harry was competing in the Maserati Jerudong Park Trophy match, which was held at the Cirencester Park Polo Club on Sunday.

The royal had swapped his more formal attire for a bright green polo shirt that had the charity's name printed on the front, and the number one stamped on the back.

Harry's team may have lost, but the Prince clearly showed his sporting prowess on the field and was crowned "Most Valuable Player" at the end of the match, according to The Telegraph.

The fifth-in-line to the throne showed no signs of bitterness however, as he posed for group photos after the game and shared a laugh with his friend and rival on the pitch George Spencer-Churchill, the son of the 12th Duke of Marlborough.

It was roughly this time last year when Harry, as he normally does, took part in the annual Jerudong charity match in Cirencester. In 2014 he was joined by his older brother Prince William and it was at that sporting event that William's son Prince George was pictured on the cusp of a major milestone - taking wobbly steps while holding onto his mum's hand.

George, who was ten months old at the time, was looked after by the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, and was kitted out in a pair of sweet pink dungarees.

This year William, who welcomed his second child Charlotte with his wife Kate just over three weeks ago, was notably absent from the charity match. He has, however, fulfilled various royal duties in the past week following a short paternity leave.

Harry only had the chance to meet his newborn niece at the weekend, just a day before he competed in the polo match.

Royal sources confirmed to the Mirror that the Queen's grandson had paid a visit, while one Twitter user Jake Cottrell also spotted Harry near Anmer Hall – William and Kate's country home in Norfolk where they are looking after baby Charlotte.

"I have just seen Prince Harry driving through Brandon in the nicest Range Rover I've ever seen," the royal watcher posted on Twitter.
