Princess Charlene of Monaco dons wetsuit for swimming day with kids

June 30, 2015

Princess Charlene of Monaco is known for her designer outfits and elegant style, so it's no surprise that she managed to make even a wetsuit look fashionable. The 37-year-old swapped her everyday attire for the sportswear, for a charity engagement organised by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation last week.

The royal, who was accompanied by her husband Prince Albert, helped host a water safety event in the seaside town of Porto-Vecchio in Corsica.

As a former Olympic swimmer, Charlene was in no better position to lead the session with the help of paddleboard world champion Stéphanie Barneix and four-time free diving record holder Pierre Frolla.

The princess took to the water with some 90 schoolchildren aged between seven and 11 and taught them basic first aid, the risks related to the sea as well as how to rescue people using buoys and tubes, among other skills.

Getting into the water was second nature to Charlene, who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics as part of South Africa's 4×100m medley team.

The Zimbabwe-born star, who is a doting mum to twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, also looked a natural with the children.

Charlene was pictured giving some young girls a big group hug, before tenderly embracing her own husband Albert who had supported her at the event.

Last month the royal couple's babies were baptised in Monaco on Sunday 10 May. A radiant and animated Charlene showed just how much motherhood suits her, confidently taking care of her five-month-old twins.

The religious ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Monaco, with members of the Monegasque royal family, including Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, in attendance.

Charlene's parents Lynette and Michael Whittstock, her brothers Gareth and Sean and their respective wives, had also flown into the principality for the big day.
