July 9, 2015

Carole Middleton has proved herself to be a devoted grandma time and again, from being the first one to visit Prince George as a baby in hospital to taking him out for special days out on her own. So when he turns two on 22 July, the millionaire businesswoman – who founded Party Pieces, her successful party supplies company 28 years ago – will probably be keen to spoil her grandson with a fun-filled celebration.

Carole recently shared her tips for children's parties in Little London magazine in her capacity as their new columnist.

The 60-year-old says that she's always believed that "parties do not have to be lavish or expensive occasions" and "it's amazing what you can achieve by being clever and creative". Here are the glamorous granny's ideas for hosting a magical summer party.

Sports day style games

"If you have the space, be well-prepared with a host of outdoor activities," says Carole, who suggests heading for the local park if you don't have a garden.

Rounders, egg and spoon races, treasure hunts, sack races, Kick the Can, Grandmother's Footsteps and obstacle courses – these are a great way to take advantage of the warm weather and will help the children to burn off energy. Many of your little guests will probably have played some of these games before and will know them already.

Put out some colourful furniture which can be used for play houses later on.
