Little Melissa Poll wrote to the Queen inviting her to her birthday party

Written on official headed paper from Balmoral Castle, it reads: "Dear Melissa, The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter in which you tell Her Majesty about your disappointment at not being able to tour the State apartments at Buckingham Palace. "Her Majesty was sorry to hear that you and your grandmother tried twice to see inside the Palace and that, for various reasons, you were unlucky. I enclose some information leaflets which you make like to have, and hope that you will visit the Summer Opening next year."Although unable to come to your birthday party, the Queen greatly appreciated your kind thought for her, and I hope you have a lovely time with your family and friends on 27th September. "I am to thank you too for your kind thought in writing about the forthcoming splendid milestone in Her Majesty's reign. "Melissa was understandably so excited by the response, that she took the letter with her on her first day back at The Church of England School of the Resurrection to show her friends. Her grandmother Denise Hurst told the newspaper: "We passed the gardens at Buckingham Palace and I told her that is where the Queen hosts parties. Melissa said, 'Would she like to come to my birthday party?'"She did a congratulations card to the Queen with a picture of her on the front with a message inside. They obviously read the letter. She said she could not make it to the birthday party and things like that. "She was delighted. Although, she was disappointed she couldn't make it to the birthday party."
