Princess Marie denies claims of breast enhancement surgery

Princess Marie of Denmark has denied claims that she had cosmetic surgery in Lithuania last year. The royal court took the unprecedented step of demanding a retraction from Her & Nu magazine over claims published last month, suggesting that the princess had a breast enhancement procedure.

The magazine had claimed the 39-year-old had two old implants taken out and replaced by new ones in June 2014. It said she checked out on the same day as the operation.

This week a full retraction was published on the royal palace website.

It read: "In the article we wrote that Princess Marie a Saturday in June last year visited a clinic in the city of Kaunas in Lithuania, where the princess was "under the plastic surgeon's knife to get bigger breasts."

"This information was untrue."

The statement adds that the royal has never even visited Lithuania.

Born in France as Marie Cavallier, she was educated in Switzerland and Marymount Manhattan College in New York. Before marrying Queen Margrethe's younger son Prince Joachim, the elegant brunette was a businesswoman who worked in Geneva and the Big Apple.

The couple have two children Prince Henrik, six, and Princess Athena, three, as well as Nikolai, 16, and Felix, 13, from his previous marriage.

Joachim and Marie married in a fairytale ceremony in 2008, three years after his divorce from first wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.

As recently as last year, the mother-of-two praised her husband as her "soulmate", saying he makes her laugh all the time and that they are still as in love as the day they met.

Marie is quite a favourite with her parents-in-law because of how happy she makes their son and because she is French, like the queen's husband, Prince Henrik.

For their last big family occasion, the entire clan gathered to celebrate Queen Margrethe's 75th birthday in week-long festivities that included a black tie gala and an appearance on the balcony of Copenhagen's Town Hall.
