Prince George's diary entries imagined in humorous new book

October 20, 2015

Prince George is rarely seen in public, let alone heard, but the musings of the two-year-old are set to be shared with the world in an amusing new book. In The Prince George Diaries, writer Clare Bennett imagines what life is like for the fourth-in-line to the throne – starting from his first birthday in July 2014.

The satirical book begins with Prince George awaking on his first birthday to discover his "entire team" including his press secretary, Latin teacher and hairdresser singing Happy Birthday to him. His parents Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge also join in the festivities which involved a party with the Queen (nicknamed GG), Prince Charles (aka Goonie) and the Duchess of Cornwall, who he refers to as GaGa.

The amusing diaries, written by Tatler contributing editor Clare Bennett, follow George's reaction to events in his life including finding out he is going to be a big brother and the birth of his baby sister Princess Charlotte, who he refers to as Ringo.

"RINGO IS HERE. And it's a she," reads the diary entry for the day Charlotte is born. The young Prince details his consultations with his press team ahead of his arrival at the Lindo Wing, explaining that he "thought a headshot of Daddy and me would be better, so I made him carry me".

He added: "We waved a bit together. No smiling, though. I wanted to keep them guessing. It works for Victoria Beckham."

While the fictional George struggles to get used to sharing the limelight with his new baby sister, he develops a bond with Charlotte after some words of encouragement from "GG".

"She's wonderful – and she's going to be even more wonderful. Just like you," the Queen tells him.

Author Clare Bennett has written in the voice of George before in a series of articles for Tatler. Her book, The Prince George Diaries, will be released on 5 November.
