Prince William and Kate join the Queen at the festival of remembrance

November 8, 2015

Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge joined his grandmother the Queen to attend the annual Festival of Remembrance, honouring those that have served in the British military. The evening was especially poignant as this year marks several significant anniversaries, including the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.Kate looked elegant for the evening in a black lace dress, similar to the Dolce and Gabbana gown she wore to meet the Chinese president in October.

Arriving early, the couple took up their seats in the royal box alongside the Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Duke of Kent and The Princess Royal awaiting the Queen's entrance.

Shortly afterwards Her Majesty entered to a fanfare from the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry Band.

The royals watched moving videos featuring veterans such as 94-year-old Bob Hucklesby who recounted his experience of being a prisoner in the Second World War, over 70 years ago.

On Sunday, the Queen will be joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and Prime Minister David Cameron to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in London.

The gala concluded with hymns, prayers and blessings before the audience was invited to sing God Save the Queen. Touched by the enthusiastic rendition of the national anthem, the monarch waved to guests before making her exit from the Royal Albert Hall.

The evening also focused on those left behind, especially war widows who have lost their husbands in the Afghanistan and Iraq war. Their stories were interspersed with musical performances from singers Pixie Lott, Andrea Bocelli and Rod Stewart.
