The Countess of Wessex paid her respects at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on Wednesday. The 50-year-old, who is on a tour of the US and Canada, looked sombre as she laid a bouquet of flowers on a commemorative sign bearing names of those killed in the 2001 attack.
During her visit to the site in New York, Sophie also toured the museum, taking the time to look over each exhibit in silence.

Sophie's tour of the memorial followed her appearance at an Armistice Day service at The Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden in Hanover Square, which was opened in commemoration of the 67 British victims of the attack. The royal wore a simple black midi length dress, along with a traditional red poppy pin to observe the two minutes silence and lay a wreath.
After an emotional day, Sophie glammed up to attend the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala dinner at Cipriani Restaurant in New York. Looking stylish as ever in a chic red fitted dress, the Countess gave a speech as part of her work as the organisation's Global Ambassador for their Next Generation initiatives.

Sophie will continue her royal tour with a visit to Toronto, where she will carry out a number of engagements including visiting the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair on Friday.
Other members of the royal family marked Armistice Day around the world. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall joined Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for the Remembrance Day National Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Meanwhile in London, Prince Harry spoke at a reception for the Endeavour Fund, where he chatted with wounded servicemen and women, and spoke of the struggles of those wounded in battle.
