Queen Máxima is all smiles at university visit after recovering from illness

November 12, 2015

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands was back to her best on Thursday following her recent kidney infection. The Dutch monarch, who was recently hospitalised due to her illness, was all smiles as she paid a visit to Radboud University in the Netherlands.

The mother-of-three looked typically stylish for the engagement, teaming a pink shift dress with a tan belt and matching heels. Topping off her look with a fluffy hat and her hair tied back, Máxima smiled and waved to the gathered crowds as she arrived at the university's Medical Innovation & Technology Expert Centre.

The Queen was at the university to open three new innovative operating rooms within the medical centre, and also received a tour of the facilities during her visit.

The engagement comes just two weeks after Máxima was forced to cut short an official state visit to China with her husband King Willem-Alexander after being diagnosed with a kidney infection. After developing back pain and a fever, the Queen was flown back home to the Netherlands where she received further treatment at the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague.

After being released from hospital a few days later, Máxima expressed her thanks for the well-wishes she had received with a heartfelt message on the Dutch Royals official Twitter account.

Máxima quickly resumed royal duties following her recovery, and joined Crown Princess Mary of Denmark for the World Conference of Women's Shelters at the World Forum, The Hague on 4 November.

The Dutch Queen also joined the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, to pay her respects at the annual Remembrance Sunday Service in Whitehall, London. The duo were seen watching from a balcony as the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince William paid tribute to the war dead.
