Princess Diana once stayed at Kurt Russell's Colorado ranch in a bid to escape the paparazzi for a few days, the actor has revealed. The Hateful Eight star said he extended the invitation to the Princess when he met her at a film premiere in 1991.

Kurt was asked about the experience during an appearance on Australian talk show The Project on Monday.

"I met her with Prince Charles, it was a screening of Backdraft, a movie," Kurt explained of their meeting. "They were doing a royal – a royal thing. I was in between the two, kind of interesting at the time! They weren't getting along great."

He added: "During the evening we talked about the paparazzi and the difficulty she had going different places and stuff so I said, well, if you ever get a chance you know come over to the ranch, we've got a good long driveway and it's hard for the paparazzi to get in there so maybe you'd like to do that.

Kurt revealed that the trip was eventually organised after his long-term partner Goldie Hawn liaised with Diana's then sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson.

"Goldie [Hawn] and Fergie [Sarah Ferguson] knew each other through a friend and they put it together, and she brought the boys and they stayed in the house."

Princess Diana eventually stayed at the ranch with Princes William and Harry in 1995. While they didn't meet their A-List hosts during their stay, the royals did strike up a bond with Kurt and Goldie's housekeeper.

Kurt explained: "Our housekeeper Bonnie became very close with her and every Christmas she'd get a nice card from Diana."
