Prince William and Kate to grow their own vegetables in Anmer Hall garden

January 29, 2016

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are showing they can get their hands dirty by growing their own vegetables. The British royals have hired a gardener to help them start work to transform the grounds of their ten-bed Norfolk home in Anmer Hall.

Cottage garden expert Robin Parker has been enlisted to help the royals make their garden into a landscape of beautiful blooms and tasty vegetables.

The Sun revealed news that Kate hired Robin to help her become more green-fingered. "He’s helping her become more self-sufficient. She loves cooking stuff she’s grown," a friend of the Duchess said.

"It’s all a bit like Barbara and Tom in BBC TV comedy The Good Life." In the seventies BBC programme, Tom and his wife Barbara decide to become self-sufficient by turning their suburban back garden into a farm.

It's not only flowers, plants and trees which Robin has been hired for. His duties also include looking after swings and climbing frames for Prince George, two, and eight-month-old Princess Charlotte.

Prince George may even give a helping hand in the garden as the toddler assisted his granddad, Prince Charles, plant two new trees in Highgrove House in June.

However, the 47-year-old is keeping tight-lipped on the matter. "Due to the nature of people I work for, I am not allowed to talk about the job," Robin said.

The gardener will also look after swings for the royal children

The royal couple are spending £1.5million on renovations for the house, including an extensive tree-planting programme to give the family-of-four more privacy.

Last year, the couple hired a new housekeeper, Sadie Rice, 34, who had previously worked for Norway's Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Alongside Sadie, Spanish nanny Maria Teresa Turrion assits with the childcare of the two little royals, as well as looking after the family dog Lupo.
