William, Kate and Harry welcome the Obamas for dinner at Kensington Palace

April 22, 2016

US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were the guests of honour at a private dinner hosted at Kensington Palace on Friday evening. The President and First Lady rounded off their busy day in Britain by meeting with Prince Harry, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton.

The royal trio appeared delighted to welcome their special guests at 7.15pm and were pictured catching up ahead of their meal. While William and Harry both looked smart in blue suits, Kate looked typically chic in an L.K.Bennett's Addison jewel tone printed silk dress which retails at £325.

The First Lady looked equally stylish in a nude tonal ensemble.

After exchanging greetings at Kensington Palace's Clock Court courtyard, the royal trio and Barack and Michelle Obama stood in front of the steps of the Royal abode, posing for photos for 15 seconds before stepping inside the lavish property.

As the black double doors opened to allow the group to enter the residence, another little guest could be seen waiting in the cream-coloured hallway, Prince George. They later made their way towards the Drawing Room, where they chatted before dinner.

The dinner offered a good chance for the group to reunite, as they have previously met at other engagements in the past. William and Kate last saw the First Lady together in July 2012 at a reception in Buckingham Palace, while the Duke also met the President in Washington in 2014 alone.

Prince Harry, meanwhile, spent the day with the Obamas in October as part of his trip to the US. Harry, who was only in the Washington area for one day to promote the 2016 Invictus Games, met wounded military members alongside Michelle.

The Obamas dinner at Kensington Palace comes just hours after they had lunch with the Queen and Prince Philip at Windsor Castle. The pair touched down in the grounds of the Berkshire estate via helicopter, and Prince Philip was on hand to play chauffeur, driving their visitors back to the castle.

The couple are on a three-day visit, which will most likely be Barack's final official trip to the UK as President of the United States.

A White House spokesman said: "The visit will allow the president to offer his gratitude to the British government and people for their stalwart partnership with his administration and the American people throughout his presidency."
