Fashion followers might well recognise the dress – Maxima last wore the striking ensemble in March when she attended a state dinner in Paris with her husband and French president Francois Hollande.

In Amsterdam, the celebrations conclude with one of the biggest events of the day, the Amstel Concert. Artists from diverse musical genres perform on an enormous floating podium on the river in front of the stately Royal Carre Theatre, and the concert is traditionally attended by the King and Queen.
