The Queen is resplendent in pink as she makes school visit

May 6, 2016

The Queen commanded all attention as she visited Berkhamsted School on Friday wearing a very colourful outfit. Her Majesty, who is known for her rainbow-coloured wardrobe, matched the sunny weather in a bright fuchsia dress, coat and matching hat.

The Queen was visiting in her capacity as patron of the school, which is celebrating its 475th anniversary.

Shortly after touching down in her helicopter, the monarch was greeted by pupils and teachers waving Union Jacks.

Her first task was to inspect the school's Combined Cadet Force Guard of Honour. The Queen was then treated to a lively excerpt of The Lion King, which was performed by young schoolchildren in full costume.

Her Majesty stayed for lunch, where she was joined by the town and borough council and members of the school community. Before leaving, she unveiled a plaque commemorating the school's anniversary.

According to headteacher Richard Backhouse, the royal visit was the first time a reigning monarch has ever made a trip to the school. It took eight months to plan the day's events, and members of the cadet force had practised all morning ahead of the Queen's arrival.

As part of her visit to the town, Her Majesty also stopped by the Church of St Peter.

This was the first engagement that the Queen has carried out since the week of her birthday in April. The royal turned 90 on Thursday 21 April, where she celebrated with a walkabout, beacon-lighting ceremony and private dinner in Windsor.

The following day she and Prince Philip hosted Barack and Michelle Obama for lunch at Windsor Castle.
