Newborn Prince Alexander stars in first family portraits with Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia

May 13, 2016

The Swedish royal palace has released five new portraits of the newest member of the royal family – Prince Alexander. The baby boy, who was born on 19 April, stars alongside his parents Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.

In one photo, taken at the family's home in Drottningholm Palace, new mum Sofia is glowing with happiness. The former model cradles her son in her arms and beams down at him, while her husband Carl Philip rests an affectionate hand on his baby's head.

The new parents, who married in June 2015, are no doubt floating on cloud nine. It's been just over three weeks since they welcomed their baby boy and the expressions on their faces reflect pure delight.

Another photo showed the couple posing in the grounds of their palace, with their adorable pet dog completing the family picture.

Carl Philip, 37, and Sofia, 31, also posed for individual portraits with their son. A particularly sweet photo shows the handsome Prince cuddling his sleeping son to his chest.

The new parents were the picture of happiness

The pictured were released to celebrate Carl Philip's birthday on Friday, as well as to thank fans for their well wishes.

A message from Carl Philip and Sofia on their social media accounts read: "We would in this way like to convey our sincere gratitude for all the congratulations we received in connection with our son, Prince Alexander's, birth. We genuinely appreciate your kindness and considerations."

The photos were released to mark Carl Philip's 37th birthday

Prince Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, Duke of Sodermanland, was born at 6:25pm at the Danderyd hospital in Stockholm and weighed about 7 pounds 9 ounces.

The first official portrait of Alexander was taken by his dad Carl Philip and released a few days after the birth. The little boy was pictured asleep in his cot, swaddled in blankets.

Fans had previously been given a glimpse at the new royal when a picture of the family leaving hospital was released the day after the birth.
