Queen Rania

Mathilde of Belgium and Rania of Jordan are queens of elegance at glittering gala

May 19, 2016

Queen Rania of Jordan and Queen Mathilde of Belgium upped the style stakes as they attended a gala dinner on Wednesday evening. The lavish do was held in honour of Rania and her husband King Abdullah II, on the occasion of their royal visit to Belgium.

The Jordanian queen was a sight to behold in a chic monochrome outfit. She paired a flowing white top with a beaded black full-length skirt and added just a pop of colour to her look with a purple royal sash.

Rania, 45, had her hair styled into waves and swept it back with a tiara by Boucheron. The dainty headpiece can also be worn as a bracelet.

Queen Mathilde and Queen Rania accessorised with glittering tiaras

Her host and Belgian counterpart Mathilde, 43, looked just as ravishing in a red sequined gown that featured a ruffled skirt. She accessorised with diamond and pearl earrings from Queen Fabiola's collection, but the piece de résistance was her impressive Nine Provinces Tiara.

The headpiece was originally made with arches of diamonds on top of the base, but Mathilde usually wears just the bandeau. She wore the full version with arches for the first time in 2015 at Queen Margrethe's 75th birthday celebrations.

The royals joined their husbands at a lavish banquet

Rania and Mathilde accompanied their husbands to the dinner held at the Belgian royal family's official residence, the Royal Palace of Laeken in Brussels.

The royal group sat at the top table and toasted Rania and Abdullah's visit. King Philippe also delivered a speech, welcoming his special guests.

Rania later took to Twitter to share a photo from the night and captioned it: "A lovely dinner banquet held by Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in our honour."
