Princess Mary of Denmark showed she wasn't afraid to face some hardcore, practical exercises as she took part in an army drill over the weekend. She swapped her ballgown and tiara for khaki military uniform and combat boots as she trained with the country's Home Guard.
Joining the 5,000 other volunteers at the Bülows Barracks in Fredericia town, Mary participated in a series of land and water exercises.
The princess was seen kneeling down to fire rounds from a machine gun and also marched in a parade.

Mary, 44, seemed more than happy to take part in the training day and at one point donned a hi-vis vest as she handled heavy machinery.
The future queen of Denmark, who holds the rank of First Lieutenant, was also subjected to eating rations and had a chance to mingle with other ranks.

The Home Guard is a volunteer military organisation that supports the Danish army, navy and air force, both nationally and internationally. Members join on an unpaid and voluntary basis.
Mary joined in to show her support for the group, and perhaps to see how her skills compared with her husband Crown Prince Frederik.

The Danish prince began his military service in 1986 and has since completed extensive military studies. He now holds the rank of Major General in the army and air force, and Rear Admiral in the navy.
The couple were most recently pictured together a few weeks ago. Mary and Frederik attended the christening of baby Prince Oscar of Sweden, Frederik's new godson and the third-in-line to the Swedish throne.
